Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery Physician Elected Vice Chair of American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’ Robotic Surgery Group

AAGL logoAUSTIN, Texas—Devin Garza, M.D., a surgeon affiliated with the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, has been elected to serve as vice chair for a special interest group on robotic surgery for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL).

AAGL is the leading association advancing minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries worldwide. It has more than 7,000 members extending to more than 110 countries.

“Advancements in minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery continue to improve the quality of patient care, and AAGL is at the forefront of that research,” Dr. Garza said. “I’m honored to work with this international team of experts.”

Garza has been elected to serve as vice chair of the AAGL Robotics special interest group for a one-year term and as chair beginning in 2018.

Dr. Garza is on the Robotic Steering Committee for the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, an international treatment, training and research center that combines excellence in robotic-assisted surgery and outcomes with education and training. Physicians at the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery nationally proctor and instruct in the unique procedures of da Vinci Gynecologic Surgery.

He has been involved in the research and development of various instruments on the da Vinci Xi platform and continues to work with industry engineers to advance robotic technology further.
